Jaiz Charity and Development Foundation, is set up independently by Jaiz Bank Plc, the First Islamic Bank in Nigeria to cater for and support the corporate social responsibility of the Bank. By default, Jaiz Bank is structured to operate with a poverty intervention mechanism which comes as a result of the fact that the income it generates has to be certified by competent Shar’ia scholars. In this regard, an income cleansing mechanism was put in place whereby any non-shari’a compliant income incidentally generated by the bank is transmitted to charity. Jaiz Foundation was therefore established in April 2012 for purposeful utilisation of the non-permissible incomes from Jaiz Bank Plc. Jaiz Foundation has carried out a considerable number of interventions which largely focus on humanitarian, socio-economic, health and education to the Nigerian Ummah in accordance with the principle of Istihsan (public good).
Jaiz Foundation has given support through humanitarian aid to IDPs affected by Boko Haram insurgencies, armed banditry and communal crisis. The victims that benefitted from the interventions were from the states of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Katsina, Plateau, Nasarawa, Taraba and Zamfara. The Foundation had also extended a humanitarian relief to Kano State Government and the Emirate Council during the unfortunate incidence of bomb-blasts at the Kano Central Mosque. The Foundation has collaborated with other Non- Governmental Organisations in the areas of health and socio-economic empowerment. Such organizations included Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Katsina State Foundation, Arewa Less Privileged Association, Kano State Relief & Rehabilitation Center, Dorayi, Supreme Council for Shari’a in Nigeria and host of others. The Foundation had also built a mini-community hospital in Zamfara state as well as provided some community centers with fully equipped ambulances. To date, we have spent over N400, 000,000.00 (Four Hundred Million) on interventions in various sectors since inception.
Jaiz Foundation had also collaborated with the authors and publishing houses to review and print some Islamic books; such as Islamic Studies for Junior/ Senior Secondary Schools, Understanding Takaful (Islamic Insurance) in Nigeria, review and translation to English language of Ibada Da Hukunci (The Rules of Worship in Islam) and Littafin Qawa’idi( The Creeds of Islamic Monotheism). Jaiz Foundation strive to complement government efforts in uplifting the standard of living of our people in our little capacity and will also extend our invitation to other well-to-do persons and organizations to come forward in partnership towards attaining the sustainable development goals. On behalf of the Board of Trustees and Management of Jaiz Charity & Development Foundation, I would like to appeal to allow ell meaning Nigerians to continue standing together for the betterment of the lives of our people. Whatever little one can do, Allah Sunhanahu wa ta’ala will reward him/ her tenfold. May Allah accept our commitment and set at ease our current and future challenges.
Thank you and Jazakumullahu Khairan.
